This mosque is one of the historical monuments and is located in Iqbal Street somewhere among the old bazaar of Urmia. In fact it is one of the pillars of this city. Some of researchers believe that this mosque had been primarily temple for Zoroastrians which was destroyed by attack of Muslims to Iran after collapse of Iranian empire. Then in 7th century (hijri qamari) this mosque was constructed on its base. These researchers also believe that the architecture of this building and its interior design refers back to Seljuk era in Iran.
The main building is repaired but the exact date of this repairing is not known. Just we know that its Mehrab is constructed in 676 (hijri-qamari). This mosque has 2 main gates which connect the bazaar to the mosque.
